In response to this week’s WordPress photo challenge Beneath Your Feet
Beneath my feet are the ruins of Eraclea Minoa, an ancient Greek settlement dating from 6th century BC on the southern coast of Sicily between Sciacca and Agrigento. There are remains of dwellings, a necropolis and a theater. The view of gentle slopes is magnificent with the river Platani reaching the sea. In the evening there was going to be a theater performance of the Greek tragedy Electra – the crew was setting up the stage while actors were waiting around for the show to begin.
We stopped to visit the ruins on our way to the Scala dei Turchi. More on that in my next post.
