If you’ve seen my latest Instagram photos, you know we’re vacationing in our all-time favorite holiday spot: Sicily. This island is basically a second home to us that we visit almost every summer because we love the people, the language, the amazing views, the beaches, the cities, the heat and of course the food. Despite our frequent visits so many places are yet to be discovered. This buzzing market place at Piazza Carlo Alberto in Catania was a new discovery. Very few tourists around this local market where you’ll find fresh and locally sourced veggies, fruits, fish, meat and cheese.
Spotted these alien looking veggies at the market. This was my very first encounter with the bittermelon and learned that they’re widely grown in Asia, are choke full of vitamins and minerals, and are known to lower blood sugar levels.
If you’re a foodie in Catania and are trying to avoid the overly touristy places, the market at the Piazza Carlo Alberto is definitely worth a visit!
