FLOWERING CAPE TOWN

Yesterday morning and early afternoon we had temperatures up to 30°C only to be caught completely off guard by a thick dark cloud moving over the city in the late afternoon with temperatures dropping by 10-15°C within an hour. Today it’s all grey and that typical Capetonian wind has been blowing hard and strong all day. So, there you have it, that’s spring in Cape Town! Good luck with figuring out how to dress your kid in the morning for school!

This time of the year is not only marked by pretty flowers everywhere, this is also the beginning of the whale season. Personally I haven’t spotted any whales yet, but I’ve been passionately photographing flowers on my hikes and runs. Flower can’t solve all problems, but hey, they’re a great start!

And this little cutie is a red grasshopper. Quite large and easy to spot due to his amazing red-orange hues:

And this beautiful carnivorous plant, commonly known as a sundew, feeds on insects. Wikipedia tells me that both sundew, meaning the ‘dew of the sun’ and its botanical name, drosera, meaning ‘dew or dewdrops’ refer to those glistening drops at the tip of each tentacle that resemble drops of morning dew:
